Overview
Between Pommard and Meursault, Volnay’s narrow east- and southeast-facing slopes carry thin limestone-rich soils. These sites give Pinot Noir floral fragrance, red fruit, fine tannin, and elegance, while clayier parcels add breadth and power.
History
Volnay’s reputation for refined red wine developed through centuries of ducal, ecclesiastical, and merchant ownership; AOC protection followed in 1937.
