Saint-Romain AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Saint-Romain AOC produces fresh Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from high limestone slopes above the Côte de Beaune.
Overview
Set beneath dramatic cliffs at the head of a valley west of Meursault, Saint-Romain’s vineyards sit at relatively high elevations. Cool airflow and rocky limestone-marl soils favor taut whites with citrus and mineral character and fragrant, light-footed reds.
History
Archaeological evidence reflects ancient settlement and viticulture; modern village AOC protection dates to 1947.

The vineyards occupy elevated slopes and a rocky amphitheater around Saint-Romain, well above the main Côte.

Altitude and cool valley airflow delay ripening and preserve marked acidity within the continental climate.
