Ruchottes-Chambertin AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru produces red Pinot Noir from a small, stony upper-slope vineyard north of Clos de Bèze.
Overview
Ruchottes-Chambertin occupies a high east-facing niche at the northern end of Gevrey’s grand-cru slope. Thin rocky soils over hard limestone and a cool, well-drained position yield refined Pinot Noir with floral and red-fruit aromas, mineral precision, and firm, fine-grained structure.
History
The climat’s name reflects its rocky ground, and its Grand Cru status was protected in 1937.
Geography
The vineyard lies high on the slope above Mazis-Chambertin and immediately north of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze.
Climate
Elevation, airflow, and shallow soils create a relatively cool mesoclimate within the continental Côte de Nuits.
Soils
Very shallow, stony brown calcareous soils rest on hard Jurassic limestone with limited clay and marl.
