Overview
On the gentle east-facing mid-slope of Vosne-Romanée, Romanée-Saint-Vivant lies between Richebourg and La Grande Rue. Deep brown limestone soils support sensuous Pinot Noir with red fruit, flowers, spice, fine tannin, and complex savory development.
History
The name recalls the Benedictine monastery of Saint-Vivant de Vergy, whose monks cultivated important Vosne vineyards from the Middle Ages; Grand Cru status was protected in 1936.
Geography
The appellation occupies a gently sloping east-facing band below Romanée-Conti and La Romanée at roughly 250 to 270 meters.

Continental conditions and morning exposure favor steady ripening, while the gentle slope and deeper soils moderate vine stress.

Brown limestone soil reaches roughly ninety centimeters in places, with substantial clay over hard Jurassic Premeaux limestone.
