Richebourg AOC
Richebourg AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Richebourg Grand Cru produces monumental red Pinot Noir from clay-rich limestone slopes north of Romanée-Conti.
Overview
Richebourg occupies an east-facing mid- to upper-slope sector between Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru land. Variable soil depth over hard Jurassic limestone supports concentrated Pinot Noir with dark fruit, violet, spice, muscular tannin, and exceptional aging capacity.
History
The vineyard’s name evokes rich or fertile ground and its long-established identity was protected as a Grand Cru AOC in 1936.
Geography
The appellation rises eastward above Vosne-Romanée in two principal historic sectors beside Romanée-Saint-Vivant.
Climate
A continental climate, favorable easterly exposure, and slope drainage allow full ripening while retaining freshness.
Soils
Brown limestone and rendzina soils vary from shallow upper parcels to deeper, more clay-rich lower sections over Premeaux limestone.
Wine styles
Only red Pinot Noir is produced, typically powerful, opulent, spicy, and extremely long-lived.
Notable features
Its combination of breadth, density, and aromatic refinement makes Richebourg one of Vosne-Romanée’s most forceful grands crus.
