History
Delimited in 1931, the appellation received formal recognition in 1940.

Vineyards occupy east-facing slopes in Vinzelles and Loché around 200 to 250 meters.
Climate
The southern continental climate and sunny autumns encourage early, complete ripening.

Bathonian and Bajocian limestone supports predominantly iron-influenced clay-limestone soils.
