Pernand-Vergelesses AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Pernand-Vergelesses AOC produces both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a cool, folded valley behind the Corton hill.
Overview
Vineyards curve around Pernand-Vergelesses on slopes facing east, south, and northeast. Cooler exposures and limestone-marl soils give precise, fresh Chardonnay and fragrant Pinot Noir with red fruit, mineral tension, and moderate structure.
History
The village’s historic vineyard identity, including the Vergelesses sector, was protected as an AOC in 1936.
Geography
The appellation occupies the junction of two valleys behind the Corton hill, with vineyards on varied slopes and elevations.
Climate
Cool air, partial shelter, and diverse aspects make this one of the fresher mesoclimates of the northern Côte de Beaune.
Soils
Limestone and marl predominate, with stony calcareous soils, clay, and slope deposits varying by exposure.
