Mercurey AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Mercurey AOC is the Côte Chalonnaise’s largest village appellation, known mainly for structured red Pinot Noir.
Overview
A complex amphitheater of hills, valleys, and exposures around Mercurey and Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu produces substantial reds and smaller amounts of Chardonnay.
History
The village’s commercial wine reputation grew strongly in the nineteenth century; AOC recognition followed in 1936.

Vineyards occupy varied slopes around two communes northwest of Chalon-sur-Saône.
