Mazoyères-Chambertin AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru is a red Pinot Noir appellation sharing its delimited ground with part of Charmes-Chambertin.
Overview
Mazoyères-Chambertin occupies lower, gently sloping land south of Chambertin near the Route des Grands Crus. Deeper clay-limestone soils produce broad, generous Pinot Noir with ripe fruit, earth, spice, and firm underlying structure.
History
The historic Mazoyères name remains legally protected as a Grand Cru, although producers commonly label wine from the same delimited area as Charmes-Chambertin.
Geography
The site lies on the lower east-facing slope below Latricières-Chambertin and beside the Charmes sector.
Climate
Continental conditions combine morning sun with greater lower-slope warmth and some increased frost exposure.
Soils
Relatively deep brown limestone-derived soils contain marl, clay, gravel, and accumulated slope material.
Wine styles
