Mazis-Chambertin AOC
Mazis-Chambertin AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru is a red-only Pinot Noir appellation at the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin’s grand-cru slope.
Overview
Mazis-Chambertin sits north of Clos de Bèze on an east-facing slope with fractured limestone and variable clay. The site produces powerful, deeply colored Pinot Noir with dark fruit, spice, earth, and muscular tannins that reward extended aging.
History
The name recalls former dwellings on the site and its vineyard identity predates formal Grand Cru recognition in 1937.
Geography
The appellation occupies the northern end of the grand-cru band above Gevrey-Chambertin, divided between upper and lower sectors.
Climate
A continental climate and open eastern exposure provide morning sun; elevation and slope airflow preserve freshness.
Soils
Brown calcareous soils, limestone rubble, marl, and clay vary between the upper and lower portions over Jurassic bedrock.
