Overview
The appellation occupies the upper Montagne de Beaune, where altitude and exposed limestone soils create fresh, aromatic wines distinct from the broader Beaune AOC below.
History
Created to protect the specific vineyards above Beaune, the communal AOC dates to 1937.
Geography
Vines occupy elevated east- and southeast-facing slopes immediately above Beaune.
Climate
Altitude and airflow create cool conditions and measured ripening.
Soils
Shallow limestone and marl soils contain stones, clay, and slope debris.
Wine styles
Red Pinot Noir and white Chardonnay are produced with freshness and moderate body.
Notable features
Despite its name, the AOC is a compact site above Beaune, not the whole Côte de Beaune district.
