Clos des Lambrays AOC
Clos des Lambrays AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru produces red Pinot Noir from a largely walled, nearly singly owned vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis.
Overview
South of Clos Saint-Denis, the vineyard rises eastward through several geological bands. Marl higher on the slope and clay-limestone below contribute to rounded yet serious Pinot Noir with red fruit, floral notes, savory depth, and increasing gravity with age.
History
The clos has medieval roots and evolving boundaries; it became Morey-Saint-Denis’s most recently recognized Grand Cru in 1981.
Geography
The appellation occupies an east- to southeast-facing slope around 250 meters between Clos Saint-Denis and Clos de Tart.
Climate
Continental weather, morning sun, and slope airflow support balanced ripening across its vertical extent.
Soils
Marly upper soils transition to clay-limestone lower down, with variable depth and stony slope material.
Wine styles
Red Pinot Noir exclusively, typically rounded in youth and increasingly deep, savory, and complex with maturity.
Notable features
Its near-monopole ownership and comparatively late 1981 Grand Cru recognition set it apart in the Côte de Nuits.
