Chorey-lès-Beaune AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Chorey-lès-Beaune AOC produces approachable red Pinot Noir and limited white Chardonnay from the lower slopes north of Beaune.
Overview
Between Aloxe-Corton, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Beaune, Chorey’s gently sloping vineyards grow mainly Pinot Noir on eroded limestone-marl deposits. The reds emphasize bright cherry fruit and supple texture, while scarce whites offer fresh Chardonnay character.
History
Long sold under neighboring names, Chorey’s wines gained their own village appellation in 1970.
Geography
The vineyards lie on low, gently inclined ground at the foot of the Côte de Beaune north of Beaune.
Climate
Continental conditions and low elevation bring relatively warm ripening, balanced by open airflow and seasonal frost risk.
Soils
Limestone-marl alluvium, iron-rich material, stony subsoils, calcium-rich gravel, and pebbly clay reflect erosion from higher slopes.
Wine styles
Almost all production is red Pinot Noir, with a small and growing quantity of white Chardonnay.
Notable features
Chorey-lès-Beaune has no Premier Cru vineyards, giving the communal AOC a straightforward village identity.
