Bonnes-Mares AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru spans Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, producing powerful, structured red Pinot Noir.
Overview
The rectangular vineyard lies between the combes of Morey and Chambolle, mostly within Chambolle-Musigny, at roughly 250 to 280 meters. Contrasting white marl and redder clay-rich sectors yield fleshy, mineral Pinot Noir with dark fruit, firm structure, and exceptional aging potential.
History
The Bonnes-Mares name is documented from the late Middle Ages; its uncertain origin may relate to careful cultivation, and Grand Cru status was recognized in 1936.
Geography
The appellation crosses the boundary between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis on a gently sloping east-facing terrace.
