Auxey-Duresses AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Auxey-Duresses AOC produces red Pinot Noir and white Chardonnay at the entrance to a cool valley west of Meursault.
Overview
Vineyards occupy the valley mouth and the slopes of Montagne du Bourdon, a geological continuation of Volnay and Monthélie. Cooler conditions and limestone-marl soils give bright, savory Pinot Noir and fresh Chardonnay with citrus, orchard fruit, and mineral definition.
History
Auxey-Duresses is an old winegrowing village whose communal AOC was recognized in 1937.
Geography
The appellation extends along slopes at the entrance to the valley leading west from Meursault, with varied elevations and aspects.
Climate
Cool valley air, later ripening, and mixed exposures preserve acidity and make site selection important.
Soils
Jurassic limestone and marl combine with stony calcareous soils, clay, and slope deposits.

Both red Pinot Noir and white Chardonnay are important, with reds fresh and savory and whites focused and mineral.
Notable features
