Aloxe-Corton AOC is a designated wine appellation located within the Burgundy region of France. Aloxe-Corton AOC produces predominantly structured red Pinot Noir beneath the southern and eastern faces of the Corton hill.
Overview
The village sits at the base of the Corton hill, where varied exposures and limestone-clay soils create firm, savory Pinot Noir with dark fruit and aging capacity; a small amount of white Chardonnay adds a rarer expression.
History
The village attached Corton to its name in the nineteenth century, and the communal AOC was formally recognized in 1938.
Geography
Vineyards wrap around Aloxe-Corton and extend into neighboring Ladoix-Serrigny, from lower piedmont sites to the Corton hill’s slopes.
Climate
Continental conditions, broad exposure changes, and shelter from the hill produce distinct mesoclimates over short distances.
Soils
Marl and limestone-derived soils carry varying clay, iron-rich material, scree, and gravel according to slope position.
Wine styles
Red Pinot Noir dominates, typically structured and ageworthy; limited white Chardonnay is also authorized.
