Overview

The village lies on a gently sloping section of the Côte des Blancs where limestone and marl sit close to the surface. Chardonnay develops floral, citrus, stone-fruit, and mineral complexity with fine acidity and long aging capacity.

Vineyards rise westward from the plain onto east- and southeast-facing slopes between Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Thin brown limestone soils, marl, and stony calcareous debris vary in clay content along the slope.

White Chardonnay overwhelmingly defines the appellation; a minute quantity of red Pinot Noir may also be produced.
