Overview
Above Clos de Vougeot, Musigny climbs a steep limestone terrace from about 260 to nearly 300 meters. Shallow, clay-enriched soils produce perfumed, finely powerful Pinot Noir; a minute quantity of Chardonnay may make exceptionally rare white Musigny.
Geography & Climate
The appellation occupies a steep east-facing terrace between Les Amoureuses and Échezeaux, rising toward the Combe d’Orveau.
Soils
Shallow rocky Jurassic limestone soils contain notable red clay and are generally more clay-rich than neighboring grands crus.
Wine Styles
Red Pinot Noir defines the appellation; an exceptionally scarce white Chardonnay is also authorized.
