Overview
At the northern end of Morey-Saint-Denis’s grand-cru band, Clos de la Roche faces east to southeast around 250 meters. Hard limestone lies close to the surface, supporting concentrated Pinot Noir with dark fruit, savory earth, mineral firmness, and substantial longevity.
Geography & Climate
The appellation occupies the east-facing mid-slope immediately south of Gevrey-Chambertin and north of Clos Saint-Denis.
Soils
Hard limestone dominates beneath brown calcareous soil often only about thirty centimeters deep, with large stones and limited clay.
Wine Styles
Red Pinot Noir exclusively, typically serious, structured, earthy, and long-lived.
