Overview

Charmes-Chambertin extends across a broad, east-facing lower mid-slope beside Chambertin. Limestone-derived soils with meaningful clay content encourage generous Pinot Noir marked by ripe red and dark fruit, spice, round texture, and substantial aging capacity.

The appellation lies immediately south and downslope of Chambertin, facing east on a modest gradient above the village plain.

Brown limestone soils, marl, clay, and slope wash vary in depth across the comparatively large appellation.

Red Pinot Noir is the sole wine style, commonly combining generous fruit and supple breadth with Grand Cru concentration.
